Typically when sylphs are owned privately, by a company or individual, and are no longer needed, they’re given a grace period of 3 months or so for them to actively find new employment or wait to be bought up by another private owner. If that doesn’t happen then they automatically get drafted into the military.
That’s basically what happened to Radio - their employer went bust and had to sell off a lot of their assets, including most of their private security guards - but Radio is one of the rare few sylphs who not only defied their original programming, but also managed to keep that fact hidden for long enough to avoid being caught (and thus reprogrammed) and took the opportunity as they were in employment limbo to finally slip between the cracks and fall off the grid. They’ve pretty much just been trying to fly under the radar ever since; they don’t want to have to live in secrecy, but what they want more is to not have to go back to a life of obeying someone’s every whim and fancy.
They don’t exactly enjoy the violence their “species” is created for, but they’re also 100% prepared to use it in self-defence or when forced into a situation where they deem it necessary in order to be able to leave said situation. As a result, they’ve been known to engage in a few acts of vigilantism here and there. It’s usually unintentional, but their actions tend to fall on the good side of the moral compass, because the last thing they need when they’re trying to lay low is to leave a trail of anger and resentment in their wake; people are more likely to agree to keep their secret if they’ve done something just and/or noble for them.
